The Environmental Protection Authority uses the “Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals”

The programme (GHS, http://goo.gl/Bd0Ely) serves as its authority for symbols and signage.

A substance’s properties classification is achieved through an evaluation and is completed according to the Hazardous Substances (Classification) Regulations 2001. From this, the signal words, pictograms, and hazard and precautionary statements required for the label are determined (see https://bit.ly/2EdAWRN).
