New Data on Health and Safety Prosecutions

WorkSafe recently added a new feature to their website: health and safety prosecutions.

It’s a welcome addition, as there has been no comprehensive collection of such data until now. Whether this resolves the problem, however, is yet to be seen. For instance, at this point it does not include any information on the recent private prosecutions. You will find the new website section here: http://goo.gl/G21G2E.

It contains a searchable database of case summaries from prosecutions since December 2013 (http://goo.gl/X4vQvm), as well as an explanation of the prosecution process itself (https://bit.ly/2UxjiON). Searching the database by keyword and/or filtered by industry is especially useful.

One hopes they will develop this system further by including filters such as the levels of fines and reparations etc, which many health and safety practitioners and policy makers would find useful.
