Engaging leaders in health and safety
The Health and Safety at Work Act requires businesses and organisations to engage their workers in health and safety matters.
It is the law, but it also makes good business sense. Engaged workers are more productive, innovative and more willing to assist in the success of the business.
When it comes to health and safety everyone needs to be involved, which is why our philosophy is everyone is a leader. Both workers and managers.
There’s some core skills engaging leaders may need and that’s what our engaging leaders programme can offer.
We can deliver the whole programme which will upskill your managers and supervisors into being leaders in workplace health and safety and high performance.
Our tool will help you assess your skill gaps and we can tailor a programme to meet these needs, working with both groups and individuals.
This dovetails into our culture assessment tool so you can assess that your workplace activities and changes are making a difference and improving your workplace culture.
Engaging your staff through Health & Safety
Safety Coaching is a behaviour awareness programme that has been adapted from the UK oil industry for
New Zealand businesses. It aims to change the safety culture of an organisation by raising awareness of taking personal responsibility for safety.
The benefits of safety coaching include:
- displaying management interest to staff
- promoting interest and involvement
- enhancing employee relations
- better awareness of staff morale
- clarifying standards
- targeted injury prevention initiatives
- identifying promotion potential
- evaluating individual performance.
Safety Coaching takes a two-tier approach, concentrating both on senior management and health and safety representatives. In the first tier, Safety Coaching is aimed at senior management, training them to be able to lead safety by having open conversations with staff about safety, and making arrangements around personal commitments to safety. It is a process that emphasises safety is a two-way process between management and employees.
The programme aims to develop a sustainable approach for senior management being actively involved in showing their commitment to safety.
